I bring attention to detail and knowledge in a broad range of fields to my work as an editor.
Because I too am a writer, I try to approach editing with sensitivity. I enjoy working with young writers as they learn their craft, and experienced writers tell me they trust me to be respectful of their work but still catch errors or omissions that some editors overlook.
I am currently managing editor for an internal publication for the staff of Farm Credit Bank of Texas and its 17 affiliated lending institutions in five states. At the Austin American-Statesman, I coordinated the newspaper’s coverage of home design and was copy chief for the weekly real estate section. At the Bryan-College Station Eagle, I edited the weekly food section. I have also edited lifestyle, gardening, travel, news and business stories, as well as blogs and breaking news stories for the Web.
Texas Governor’s Mansion coverage
In 2009 and 2010, I was the copy editor for an interactive graphic and several news and feature stories in the Austin American-Statesman on the Texas Governor’s Mansion, which had been badly damaged in a 2008 arson fire. I was chosen for the project because of my knowledge of history and architecture.
For the interactive graphic, I helped edit a large number of current and historical photographs, wrote captions and verified historical information. (Graphic artist: Roberto Villalpando. Reporter: Mike Ward. State editor: Debra Davis.)
I also copy edited the following feature story on the mansion, which along with the interactive graphic was released to coincide with the exhibit “Texas Treasure: Inside Our Governor’s Mansion” at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. (Publised June 10, 2010, Austin American-Statesman, page D1.)
